Since 2011, ICL has been annually reported its emissions and efforts regarding climate change to the CDP, an independent non-profit organization dedicated to driving the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The CDP collects climate change and GHG related data from over 5,000 companies around the world, and serves more than 827 investors holding $100 trillion in assets. The report includes a comprehensive breakdown of ICLs greenhouse gas emissions, reduction targets and initiatives, climate change related risks, opportunities and business strategy, participation in emission trading schemes, external verification and other related topics. See all ICL CDP reports in ‘Sustainability Reports’.
For its 2018 report, ICL has received a general CDP ranking of “B”, which was tied for second place among global fertilizer companies, but also constituted a decrease from the company’s previous score (A-). The decrease was due to a significant leap in the CDP requirements in 2018 (which has also caused many other reporting companies to receive reduced rankings- see material sector average in the table below). Nonetheless, ICL has been studying the gaps and is attempting to take the needed actions to return to its previous ranking.
However- ICL has also received the maximum score of “A”, in the CDP’s new second sub-ranking, the Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). The SER is based mostly on companies efforts to increase awareness of climate change with their suppliers. Only 120 of 5000 (2.5%) reporting companies achieved this score. ICL was the only fertilizer company, and the only Israeli company, to make the CDP SER “A” list. ICL is specifically mentioned in the SER leader-board in the CDP web-site. This achievement was mostly made possible due to the significant expansion in ICL’s sustainable procurement practices in recent years. These efforts were increased even further in October 2018, when ICL joined the comprehensive TfS (Together For Sustainability) supplier engagement program.
