A message from ICL’s Chairman and CEO

We are delighted to present you with ICL’s Corporate Responsibility Report for 2018. The report provides insight into the progress ICL made towards fulfilling its social roles and responsibilities, as a thriving and innovative global industrial company.

The year 2018 was marked with ever more complex challenges to business and global commerce, with mounting social, environmental and political pressures dominating the daily news cycle. However, at ICL we choose to focus on the positive: the strategies and actions that enable ICL to achieve the economic, social and environmental goals that maintain continued growth and solidify our leading position in the market. The report shares a wealth of information relevant to our stakeholders, regarding a broad range of material sustainability issues. Following are a few examples, that highlight ICL’s business strategy, our advanced management practices and our contribution to the global progress towards the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

We continue to strengthen our leading position in several essential nutrient categories, critical to global food supply. ICL is a prominent global supplier of Potash and Phosphate fertilizers, where we are now the leading supplier of soluble phosphate fertilizers and specialty phosphates. We consider the challenge of feeding the ever-growing global population, while reducing agriculture’s environmental footprint, to be a fundamental business opportunity. We are marketing and further developing innovative agricultural solutions that greatly reduce nutrient loss while increasing crop yields, such as controlled-release fertilizers, fertigation products and H2Flo. These solutions, combined with new sophisticated technological tools, support farmers efforts around the world towards precision agriculture.

Throughout ICL, our engineers and business developers are exploring new circular economy processes, reuse alternatives and new markets for by-products, converting them from waste materials into valuable raw materials. A prominent example is Fluorosilicic acid, a by-product of phosphoric acid production in Israel, which is now reprocessed to become commercially viable Fluorspar. In Europe, ICL is involved in innovative pilot projects to re-use external waste streams as raw materials for phosphate fertilizers, flame retardants and other products. ICL has joined regional initiatives in several countries where we operate, attempting to find more opportunities for interlinkage between local industries and to promote circular economy further.

ICL is determined to establish its position as an Employer of choice. We have been strengthening a range of programs to retain and attract new talent and are promoting gender employment equality. Thus, the percentage of women serving as executive officers of ICL increased from 11% in 2017 to 33% in 2018. Our efforts were recognized by our inclusion in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), a select index of public companies that excel in promoting diversity in employment. ICL is the only Israeli-based company included in the index, as well as the only company among its major global peers in the specialty chemicals and fertilizers sectors. We also remain committed to the communities where we operate and have increased both our investment in social projects and the amount of employee volunteer activities in 2018.

We invested more than $30 million in 2018 in technology and capital equipment to reduce air emissions. This continuous effort benefits our employees, our communities and the environment at-large. Our drive to provide stakeholders with detailed and transparent information regarding our ESG activities was also recognized in the leading Israeli sustainability index, Maala. For our 2018 performance, ICL received the highest Maala index ranking of “Platinum Plus” for the first time. ICL is committed to open and transparent dialogue with all stakeholders. The recent significant settlements achieved with regulators and environmental organizations, greatly encourage us to continue and embrace such dialogue.
